Euthanasia And The Death Of Euthanasia - 1351 Words

Life is a precious gift that should be treasured and enriched in every way possible. But when there is no hope for a meaningful and desirable life, and every effort made to prevent the unavoidable, we should make it legally possible for the dying who request euthanasia to be able to end their suffering. Euthanasia is considered a â€Å"gentle and easy death† because it comes from the Greek words, Eu meaning good and Thanatosis meaning death. Euthanasia is illegal in most of the United States. However, assisted suicide, is legal in six different states. The states that assisted suicide is legal in are California, Oregon, Colorado, Washington DC, Vermont and Washington. The key difference between euthanasia and assisted suicide is who administers†¦show more content†¦They use other words to refer to what I am calling passive euthanasia for example, instead of passive euthanasia they may speak of death with dignity . One reason for this choice of terms is the emotio nal impact of the words: it sounds so much better to defend death with dignity than to advocate euthanasia of any sort.† Just like anything, there are going to be people who think active and passive euthanasia should be legal and some think it should be illegal. There are several different arguments that are against euthanasia. First, it violates the medical ethics. The Hippocratic Oath expressly forbids the giving of deadly medicine to anyone who asks. If euthanasia were legal it would refer to the slippery slope, which is considered a downhill movement. The physicians would feel forced to assist people who ask for euthanasia. It also could lead to situations where it becomes normal to kill people. Second, people who are religious believe that god should be the one to decide the time and the place of a person’s death, not a doctor. Third, due to being ill, a patient could become depressed and may make the wrong decision to end their life. In this scenario if a patient is depressed they should have to go through some sort of counseling and given plenty of time to really comprehend the decision t hey are making, the doctors should be able to decide if the person is physically and mentally able to makeShow MoreRelatedThe Death Of Euthanasia And Euthanasia1502 Words   |  7 PagesEvery year as we grow older, the thought of our death constantly looms over us. Teaching Survival Skills Free Essays

Should students be taught survival skills in schools? Have you ever thought about how you would survive if you were to be stranded alone? No food, no water, no shelter, nothing to make a fire with except sticks and a rock. If you were in a dangerous situation, would you be able to make it out alive? Schools nowadays are teaching many different classes. Some are very useful, but some may not be. We will write a custom essay sample on Teaching Survival Skills or any similar topic only for you Order Now Most kids today wouldn’t know the first thing to do if they were alone and needed to find food or create a shelter. There are no survival skills taught to us as children, we are simply taught to do paperwork our entire lives. If schools taught survival in one class in each school around the globe, human intelligence would double and we would evolve. Teaching survival skills helps the mind. It helps make us think faster, smarter and can even teach us more responsibility and independence. Indianoutskirts.com says that â€Å"humans live in many habitats and need survival skills to evolve and change according to our environment†. Some skills students should be taught include: how to cook on an open fire, how to be able to identify if water is safe enough to drink, and how to climb a tree to get away from dangers or predators. Most parents do not teach their children or even think to see if they are equipped with survival skills. Some parents may not agree with teaching these skills in schools, they might not even want them to learn at all. They may say that they do not want to scare them or say that they do not think their child is interested in the topic. Even though they may not be interested, parents should try to explain to them the dangers, how to avoid them and how to survive if they are ever in that situation. The biggest reason that parents should teach their kids these things is because we live in uncertain times. Children who do not learn these skill sets could face many challenges. The world changes everyday and humans learn to adapt and to evolve with their environments. We should be teaching our kids self-defense and many other skills to benefit them in their lives. In the future, if we learn more skills as children, the human species may continue on for billions of years to come. How to cite Teaching Survival Skills, Papers

Advent Of Internet In Business Organization †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Advent Of Internet In Business. Answer: Introduction The advent of Internet has brought in a revolution in the working of any business organization. The digitalization of the business has brought in innovation and made the business even more convenient. However, along with the extensive use of the Internet technology, various risks in the use of the ICT have been witnesses. The need for security and protection of the information has become essential. In order to ensure the successful use of the Internet and ICT, the confidentiality and privacy protection of the collected information needs to be ensured. This assignment highlights the need for network security in a Melbourne based small business organization. As given in the case study, the business organization operates in development and customization of various Internet based application. The business organization also operates in information and network security. The company has clients from the major cities of Australia and provides a range of services to small and large companies of Australia. However, the company now wishes to explore other options for the expansion of the business, to all parts of Australia, as well as overseas. One of the future options that the company might consider providing is the information and network security (Beberlein et al., 2017). The company might consider venturing into managing online databases and websites of the clients. Moreover, as mentioned in the case study, the potential clients might range from gambling organizations to small pharmaceutical companies or hospitality industry. This report explores the various network and security applications that are prevalent in the present business scenario (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). The advantages and disadvantages of the various applications have been discussed, along with the recommendations for the company that could be used successfully for the expansion of the business. Body Network security refers to the applications that are designed in order to protect the integrity and usability of the Internet network and the information that is stored and used. The network security ensures confidentiality and privacy of the information, along with restricting access of unauthorised users (Asati et al., 2014). Effective network security ensures that various kinds of internal as well as external threats are prevented from entering the system, as well as spreading all over the network (Pierson DeHaan, 2015). A variety of network security are available. These are as follows: Access control: One of the very basic network securities that are available includes the access control. Controlling the access of all the users and ensuring that only authorised people use the network has a key role to play in the business organizations (Dumas Bennett, 2015). This will ensure that only authorised personnel have valid login ids and passwords, in order to access information (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). This process is known as the Network Access Control (NAC). Antivirus and antimalware software: One of the major threats that computer networks face is the attack of the Malwares or malicious software that attacks the computers, and gain access to the confidential information (Williams et al., 2014). This software often deletes and tampers data, thus, causing harm to the confidentiality of the business organization. Anti-virus protects the computer network from the attack of malware and virus. Application security: Business organizations use various kinds of application software, in order to conduct their business successfully (Beberlein et al., 2017). Whether the company itself builds the software or it buys it from any vendor, it is important that the application is secure. The Applications that are used by any business organization includes hardware, software and other network elements (Li et al., 2016). Thus, the vulnerabilities of these applications have to be made secured, such that the vulnerabilities cannot be exploited. Behavioural analytics: This kind of security is used in order to detect abnormal behaviour in the network traffic (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). For example, if an intruder is trying to crack the login id and password, several failed login will be detected, thus abnormal behaviour and traffic is detected (Dangovas Kuliesius, 2014). The security team is able to track these indicators and detect abnormal system behaviour. Email security: Emails are a major gateway through which security breaches and threats take place. Hackers and attackers often use personal information and social engineering, in order to send various exploits through emails (Asati et al., 2014). The attachments in an email often contain malicious links and as soon as the user clicks, they are directed to phishing sites. These websites resemble the real websites and hence the users are often deceived (Vaishnavi Kuechler, 2015). Firewalls: A firewall is a virtual barrier between a trusted internal network and un-trusted external network. The firewall uses a set of protocols that blocks the external traffic. Firewall could be both software and hardware (Hashim, 2015). Firewalls ensure that malicious external traffic do not cause harm to the internal flow of information, within the trusted network (Beberlein et al., 2017). Intrusion prevention system: An intrusion prevention system is a network traffic scanner that actively blocks the attackers (Dangovas Kuliesius, 2014). They track the various activities of the network traffic and blocks, in case they find unusual activities (Mullick et al., 2014). This helps in the prevention of the intrusion and thus protects the network systems, thus ensuring safety. Network segmentation: Network segmentation software puts the network traffic into different categories, thus enforcing security policies. The traffic classifications are done on the basis of endpoint identifies. A person, under this system can gain access rights in the network based one location, role and designation, thus ensuring privacy (Hashim, 2015). Virtual private network: The virtual private network encrypts the connection from an endpoint of a network, thus creating a virtual private network, over the Internet. A remote access VPN uses IPSec or Secure Socket Layers, in order to authenticate the communication that takes place between network and the communication devices (Bloom et al., 2014). In order to ensure that the company is able to expand its business, the company might venture into providing access control, virtual private network and include firewall services. The advantages of providing access control include prevention of unauthorised access in the database as well as in the network systems (Beberlein et al., 2017). However, one of the major disadvantages of using the access control network security is that each employee who are eligible for gaining the access, has to give login ids and passwords. In case of any emergency, without the approval of the admin, no employee can access the databases and information (Mullick et al., 2014). Thus, the company has to ensure that the access control security systems are successfully implemented. The company could develop the firewall and expand its business successfully. The advantages of using a firewall include the prevention of unwanted traffic from entering the secured network, thus protecting the clients system from various attacks. However, there are certain disadvantages as well (Asati et al., 2014). The disadvantages include the restriction of the legitimate users. The firewalls are designed to restrict unauthorised information; however, the strict protocols of firewall might prevent the legitimate users as well. However, the company should ensure that the vulnerabilities of the firewall are handled with care (Hashim, 2015). If the employees use backdoors heavily, due to the strict protocols used by the firewall, then the vulnerabilities of the backdoor could be exploited as well. Thus, the company needs to ensure that the vulnerabilities of firewall are not exploited (Williams et al., 2014). The Virtual Private Network services could also be provided by the business organization. The VPN ensures that an encrypted channel of communication is carried out over the Internet, through a privatised channel (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). A private network of communication is carried out virtually, thus ensuring secure communication, even within the public Internet. Thus, the virtual private network ensures that a private network is created in the public network preventing intruders to eavesdrop into the conversation or exchange of information that is taking place in the private network. This is effective in ensuring confidentiality and data protection along with providing network security to the business organisations. It is essential that the ethical, social and legal considerations be given adequate importance, in order to ensure sustainable and feasible business. The ethical considerations that the business needs to abide by include the data protection and maintenance of privacy. The developers of the software might know the vulnerabilities of the network security. However, the employees need to refrain from exploiting the vulnerabilities (Asati et al., 2014). The backdoor systems should not be exploited by the business organization (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). Moreover, since the company mentioned in the case study are service providers of network security, hence the confidential information of the clients is readily available (Bloom et al., 2014). However, in order to abide by the ethical considerations, the data protection and confidentiality should be maintained (Beberlein et al., 2017). Moreover, the social considerations are also important to be considered by the business organizati on. The social conditions include the tech shrewdness of the clients along with their affordability (Lafuente, 2015). If the network securities are provided to the clients at a very high cost, that is unaffordable by them, then it becomes ineffective. Another social consideration that needs to be taken care is the extent of technical advancements in the network security (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). The company needs to ensure that the network security solutions that are provided to the customers and clients matches with the technical advancements of the clients (Shokhor Shigapov, 2013). If the client company is not technically advanced as that of the application, hence the social conditions, need to be considered and implemented effectively (Stallings Tahiliani, 2014). The legislative considerations have to be ensured by the business organization. The legislation of the Australia has to be abided by the company, before they develop applications for the clients. The legislat ion of any country has certain codes of conduct to ensure the privacy and protection of the network of the business organizations (Pucer, Trobec Zvanut, 2014). It is important that the IT codes of practice be followed, while the network securities are designed. As mentioned in the case study, in the next few years, the business organization wishes to expand its business all over Australia as well as overseas (Bloom et al., 2014). Thus, it is important that the network security applications that are designed are appropriate for the business requirements of Australia (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). It is important that the risks that are faced by the business organization need to be mitigated. While implementation of the network security applications for the clients, various issues and implementation risks could arise (Lafuente, 2015). The network security applications need to be designed, such that the vulnerabilities are not exploited. Moreover, it is essential that the network traffic over the Internet is monitored and unusual activities are carried out successfully. Lack of monitoring will result in increase in the chances of exploitations and attacks. Thus, the company needs to ensure that the various vulnerabilities of VPN, access c ontrol and firewalls are taken care by the company (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). Moreover since these applications will be developed by the company, hence it is likely that the exploitation of the vulnerabilities will be known to the company. However in order to ensure that the company continues their business ethically, the vulnerabilities should not be exploited (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). Moreover the confidential information of the client that might be accessible to the company should not be exploited or misused. Conclusion The advent of the Internet, has introduced a new era for the business organizations. With the increase in the use of Internet, network security issues and risks arise. However, it is important that the risks are mitigated. The various risks include the lack of the technical awareness of the clients regarding the installed network securities. Moreover, lack of monitoring of the activities that take place on the network needs to be ensured. The company could expand their business by providing VPN network, access control as well as firewall services. The development and deploy of these services are effective and will ensure that their business witnesses considerable expansion all over Australia, as well as overseas. The access control security system has a key role to play, since it helps in restricting the access of unauthorised users to access the confidential information. Moreover, the unauthorised access could be easily tracked in order to detect unusual activities in the network. M oreover, the use of the VPN is important, such that a virtual private network could ensure secure communication in the open network. This assignment highlights a business of Melbourne that aspires to grow and expand successfully all over Australia as well as overseas. With the increase in the use of the Internet, the importance of network security has increased and thus, in order to ensure that the business organizations are able to work without their privacy being compromised. Since with the increase in the use of Internet in business, the need for network security and protection has also increased, hence, expansion of the company in this sector is likely to be profitable. Recommendations In order to ensure that the company, as given in the case study reaches the heights of success in the next few years, it is important that few recommendations be suggested. The company needs to expand their products in the domain of network security, such that it can expand its business in various parts of Australia and overseas. Moreover, it is also recommended that the technical feasibility and financial feasibility of the company be judged, before new ventures are made (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). The vulnerabilities of the network security applications needs to be successfully taken care and fixes, such that the vulnerabilities are not exploited anymore (Pucer, Trobec Zvanut, 2014). The requirements of the clients have to be met successfully with the installation of the network security applications (Lafuente, 2015). It is also recommended that the after sales services needs to be given efficiently, such that the clients are satisfied with the kind of services being provi ded to them (Perlman, Kaufman Speciner, 2016). The time-to-time up gradation of the system has to be done, so that the clients are able to upgrade their securities as well. Thus, the company, with the expansion in the business in the virtual private network, as well as access control and installation of the firewall, will be able to succeed in their business. Yoga Teachers Reveal Their Tips For Everyday Mindfulness

Yoga Teachers Reveal Their Tips For Everyday Mindfulness With so many distractions occupying our every thought these days, it's hard to concentrate on just one thing at a time or to even clear our minds at all, which is why mindfulness awareness is so invaluable. It's important to make some time for ourselves and to find stillness in our mindswithin a chaotic world, but it can be difficult to know where to start. We asked the below yoga teachers what their top tip would be for bringing mindfulness into everyday life. This list of expert tips is the perfect place to start for carrying out small but effective methods into your everyday routine which you can start implementing today. These tips are particularly great if you're a student and you're struggling concentrating on that exam revision or coping with University stress. Enjoy some well-deserved 'you' time! Taylor Harkness... a former paramedic now aiming to unite others through yoga and optimistic neuropsychology "Yogis' talk a lot about being mindful, and for good reason. It's so easy to get sucked out of the present, especially with our constant bombardment of stimulation these days. The human brain has a finite amount of cerebral capacity, and is estimated to be roughly equivalent to 56 bits of information per second. This is why it's very hard to focus on two people talking at once and nearly impossible to focus on three. Whenever I feel myselfspiralling, it's usually because I've lost my sense ofthe present -I'm either stressed about the future, concerned with the past or simply distracted. One of the best tips that I've come to live by is this: become more mindful by making it a habit and a routine to disconnect from technology during activities. For example, when you're having a conversation, practice not looking at your phone, tv, or computer. Instead, try noticing the color of the person's eyes, or the way that they smile. When eating a meal, focus on the aromas and flavors of the food and silence your cell phone. Stop multitasking and instead, do whatever you're currently doing one hundred percent. It takes time and practicebut it eventually becomes second nature. Less reliance upon and distraction by technology means more cerebral capacity for the present moment. Begin paying more attention to the things around you and watch how it permeates into the rest of your life." www.taylorharkness.comStephanie Spence... writer, adventurer, yoga teacher and screenwriter from California "Stay in the present moment, that's where power is. This is a skill that can be learned. Practice brings rewards. Build your appreciation muscle. What you focus on magnifies, so train yourself to focus on the good things in your life. Embrace your emotions! When you don't feel good, your emotions are letting you know that you are not aligned with joy and abundance, so stop the train of thoughts that brought you to this point and accept yourself and everything around you exactly as they are at this moment."Allie Flavio... born and raised Florida girl who loves the ocean, outdoors and all types of adventure "Gratitude Movement. A gratitude practice is a wonderful way to stay grounded, connected and humbled in times of stress. By recognizing the simple, yet profoundly incredible aspects of our lives, we can truly appreciate the rest of the madness. Wondering how to do this? Start a gratitude practice. Write down three things you're grateful for every damn day. Keep it simple, keep it light, keep it fun. It can literally be anything - your cup of coffee, the comfortable bed you sleep in, your outfit, your family and friends, the food you ate...truly, everything is fair game. A movement practice can also be anything, so long as you move, breathe, and feel yourself come alive. Whether you walk, run, do yoga, dance, rock climb, or swim, there's no wrong way to move. The only requirement is that you connect to you, your beautiful self, and the miracle that your body is! Just like the above practice - keep it simple, enjoy it, don't put too much pressure on it. Just move andmove every damn day!"www.thejourneyjunkie.comRandi Ragan... holistic wellbeing expert and speaker, mindfulness teacher, ceremonial guide and green living entrepreneur "I would urge young people to simply try and find moments they can build into each and every day, that allows them to pause, step back, center themselves and focus on their breathing to turn this pause into a sacred ritual of self-care that provides a bubble of uninterrupted, quiet focus. They don't have to be thinking of anything in particular in fact, to NOT think of anything but the present moment is the goal. Do this by becoming aware of how their breath feels, how their skin feels, how the air around them feels; what sounds they hear; to close their eyes and simply BE without ANY kind of distraction (here's looking at you technology!). I like to work the sacred number 108 into these pause rituals'. (108 is the number of mala beads on a Buddhist prayer necklace. It shows up in Yoga texts and ancient Hindu scriptures as well). Take 108 steps in a mindful walk, breath and meditate for 108 breaths or 1 minute and 8 seconds, count to 108 while listening to bird sounds, take your pause ritual at 1:08 pm every day, spend 1 hour and 8 minutes writing in your journal every week literally you can apply this number to anything that you want to set aside and make sacred as YOUR time to be mindful. The more the Pause Ritual is practiced, the more one appreciates its power, and the power to radically alter the way we live our lives on a daily basis. This is Mindfulness In Action!"www.randiragan.comAdam Husler... bringing something a little different to the yoga-mix A photo posted by Adam Husler (@adamhusler) on Jul 23, 2016 at 8:53am PDT [tcb-script async="" defer="" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"][/tcb-script] A photo posted by Adam Husler (@adamhusler) on Jul 20, 2016 at 5:31am PDT [tcb-script async="" defer="" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"][/tcb-script] "Take 5 to 10 minutes in the morning to simply sit. Keep with the back of your body long, the front of your body open and spend some time bearing witness to you breath. Don't have any expectations, don't look of an elated feeling or a journey in your head, but simply spend some time trying to find calm. Whenever your mind starts to wander to the future or past, return back to the object of your focus; your breath. It can be as simple as that."www.adamhusleryoga.comSarah Highfield... London-based yoga teacher with a passion for achieving the miraculous work-life balance "Try to remain present; yoga takes us into the present moment, it's the only place where life really exists. We spend far too much time thinking about the past or feeling anxious about the future. Stay focused during your practice, move with your breath and the rest will follow."www.sarahhighfield.comGwen Lawrence... yoga instructor andfounder of Power Yoga For Sports program "Learn diaphragmatic breathing. Simply learning to breath in and out through your nose only, utilizing the bodies natural filtration system (the nose) as well, the nose is built to warm or cool the entering air appropriately for full effectiveness for the body. Adding to that, diaphragmatic breathing means breathing in and out through the nose and deep down into the belly not shallow chest breathing. When you breathe this way as opposed to through the mouth and in the chest you shut off the bodies fight or flight response mechanism and can quickly calm the body, mind and reduce stress, fear and anxiety. Of course there are many simple techniques you can do, but this is the gold standard user friendly one to pick no matter where you are or what situation you find yourself in."www.gwenlawrence.comMeadow DeVor... author, yoga teacher, master life coach and founder of Yoga Church "My best tip is to remember to breathe. So if that's the case then I'd say give yourself at least 10 minutes in the day where you are completely removed from any distractions, any technology and allow yourself to switch off, cultivating a more internal focus. Starting to notice your breath, linking the body and the mind, which is what we aim to achieve from a yoga practice. If you can get outside in the fresh air, even better! Every single day, take a moment first thing in the morning to write down at least 10 things that you are grateful for and why. The more we can reflect on the every day things we are grateful for, the more positive and happy we feel and the more wonderful things we welcome in. Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future tend to be the biggest culprits of mind-wandering, so the best way to prevent your mind from straying is to bring your attention to the here and now. Breathing exercises are a great way to stay present, and you can try this method anytime you notice your mind wandering: Sitting in a comfortable position, focus your awareness on your breath don't try to change your breathing in any way, just simply observe. Feel the air as it flows into your body as you inhale, and listen to it as it leaves your body as you exhale. This helps to shift your attention from the mind and onto whatever is happening right now. Living in the present moment has many incredible benefits; when we are in a heightened state of awareness, our concentration increases and we are less likely to be distracted by intrusive thoughts. As a result, we experience increased peace, calm and happiness in our lives." www.soulanalyse.comKelly Brooks... trying to change the perspective of yoga, making it fun and accessible to everyone "Move your body, feel alive, breathe. The breath is so important for mindfulness. When you start to feel stressed out and like you have too much to do and you don't know where to start focus back on your breathing, "sit upright" I know our mothers told us that all the time as children but when we are slouching it's stopping us from breathing effectively. Long deep breath in and a long deep breath out, drop your tongue to the lower palate and relax the face and jaw. Just 5 deep breathes can make a difference when you are feeling overwhelmed. Another tip is to try and find something positive in every situation, life is out of our control and sometimes things don't go to plan. Staying present in each moment, allowing the emotions to come and go will help." www.kellybrooksyoga.comNatasha Sherikhora... finding inner peace to cultivate mindfulness, strength and flexibility in your body and mind "Yoga and mindfulness provides opportunity to de-stress, relax and to better cope with the stresses that are involved with being a student. During the busy periods of exams it feels impossible to squeeze anything else in your schedule, that's why it's so important to find some time for yourself in order to allow your mind to clear and to help your body to release the tension that you are constantly accumulating due to the stress. Start your morning with 10-15 minutes of easy meditation and your favourite physical exercises. You can even start in a bed, laying down with your spine straight, knees bent, right palm on the heart centre, left palm is on your belly. Alternatively sit tall on the chair or on the floor with you legs crossed, crown of the head reaches up, chin is parallel to the floor. Close your eyes and try to focus on the breath, observe all the sensations associated with the breath - your belly rises, chest expands, air goes in and out through your nostrils. Try to deepen your breath and pay special attention to lengthening your exhalation. These long soothing exhales are your best friend in every stressful situation, use it any time you need to focus and calm down. Don't underestimate the power of the breath, really soon you will notice the benefits even at the beginning it may feel like waist of time :) A few rounds of San Salutations, gentle stretching, a short run or dancing to your favourite song helps to improve blood flow, releasesendorphins and improves your mood for the day ahead! With all the classes, homework, exams, parents' expectations and jobs outside of school you are constantly under pressure. It's easy to lose your focus, to forget the purpose and to loose motivation. Stay present, don't compare yourself with anyone else, focus on the positive sides of the process and most be patient with yourself"www.soluckysogreen.comRachel Scott... artistic educator, romantic adventurer and yoga nerd "Being a student can be stressful! Juggling deadlines, workloads, and extracurricular activities can lead to anxiety and burn out. Mindfulness is a wonderful tool for reducing stress while increasing focus. One of my favourite mindfulness techniques is also the simplest: counting the breath. Best of all, you can do it wherever you are: in the library, seated before a test, or even during a lecture. - Sit comfortably with a tall spine. - Begin to count your breath: inhale for a count of four, and exhale for a count of four. - Continue to inhale and exhale slowly and evenly. - Repeat 5-10 times. Even just 5-10 repetitions will help to calm the body and still the busy-ness of the mind. If you have the time, extend the length of this practice to five minutes for a soothing and effective meditation. This simple exercise is a gem: slowing the breath pacifies the nervous system, while counting the breath helps to focus and clear the mind."www.rachelyoga.comKate Watson... Co-founder of NEUlotus, a multi-use yoga prop to help with alignment and support "Alignment in mindfulness and breath. When we talk about mindfulness and presence, the first thing we discuss is breath. How should you breathe to create a sense of relaxation in the body and mind? Diaphragmatic breathing drops our body out of the fight or flight' body response and into the parasympathetic nervous system, and this is where we need to be to relax! Our fight or flight' response is where we are mostly living these days and it is nearly impossible to relax in this state. Excess weight, stress, insomnia, addiction and a lack of concentration are all side effects of being in this fight or flight' state. This is where the breath can help change the bodies health, Pranayama. To begin a good Pranayama practice, find a comfortable position where your body can be in neutral, this will allow your diaphragm the proper space to expand and drop with the opening of your ribcage. Breathe deep and wide into your ribcage and exhale completely until the last stale air of your lungs exits the body. Repeat this breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth until you soften. Really take the time to concentrate on visualizing the breathe moving in and out of the body. Do you feel the softness and the ease? This is presence. This is alignment and mindfulness. Enjoy."

The Scientific Possibilities of Time Travel

The Scientific Possibilities of Time Travel Stories regarding travel into the past and the future have long captured our imagination, but the question of whether time travel is possible is a thorny one that gets right to the heart of understanding what physicists mean when they use the word time.   Modern physics teaches us that time is one of the most mysterious aspects of our universe, though it may at first seem straightforward. Einstein revolutionized our understanding of the concept, but even with this revised understanding, some scientists still ponder the question of whether or not time actually exists or whether it is a mere stubbornly persistent illusion (as Einstein once called it). Whatever time is, though, physicists (and fiction writers) have found some interesting ways to manipulate it to consider traversing it in unorthodox ways. Time and Relativity Though referenced in H.G. Wells The Time Machine (1895), the actual science of time travel didnt come into being until well into the twentieth century, as a side-effect of Albert Einsteins theory of general relativity (developed in 1915). Relativity describes the physical fabric of the universe in terms of a 4-dimensional spacetime, which includes three spatial dimensions (up/down, left/right, and front/back) along with one time dimension. Under this theory, which has been proven by numerous experiments over the last century, gravity is a result of the bending of this spacetime in response to the presence of matter. In other words, given a certain configuration of matter, the actual spacetime fabric of the universe can be altered in significant ways. One of the amazing consequences of relativity is that movement can result in a difference in the way time passes, a process known as time dilation. This is most dramatically manifested in the classic Twin Paradox. In this method of time travel, you can move into the future faster than normal, but theres not really any way back. (Theres a slight exception, but more on that later in the article.) Early Time Travel In 1937, Scottish physicist W. J. van Stockum first applied general relativity in a way that opened the door for time travel. By applying the equation of general relativity to a situation with an infinitely long, extremely dense rotating cylinder (kind of like an endless barbershop pole). The rotation of such a massive object actually creates a phenomenon known as frame dragging, which is that it actually drags spacetime along with it. Van Stockum found that in this situation, you could create a path in 4-dimensional spacetime which began and ended at the same point - something called a closed timelike curve - which is the physical result that allows time travel. You can set off in a space ship and travel a path which brings you back to the exact same moment you started out at. Though an intriguing result, this was a fairly contrived situation, so there wasnt really much concern about it taking place. A new interpretation was about to come along, however, which was much more controversial. In 1949, the mathematician Kurt Godel - a friend of Einsteins and a colleague at Princeton Universitys Institute for Advanced Study - decided to tackle a situation where the whole universe is rotating. In Godels solutions, time travel was actually allowed by the equations if the universe were rotating. A rotating universe could itself function as a time machine. Now, if the universe were rotating, there would be ways to detect it (light beams would bend, for example, if the whole universe were rotating), and so far the evidence is overwhelmingly strong that there is no sort of universal rotation. So again, time travel is ruled out by this particular set of results. But the fact is that things in the universe do rotate, and that again opens up the possibility. Time Travel and Black Holes In 1963, New Zealand mathematician Roy Kerr used the field equations to analyze a rotating black hole, called a Kerr black hole, and found that the results allowed a path through a wormhole in the black hole, missing the singularity at the center, and make it out the other end. This scenario also allows for closed timelike curves, as theoretical physicist Kip Thorne realized years later. In the early 1980s, while Carl Sagan worked on his 1985 novel Contact, he approached Kip Thorne with a question about the physics of time travel, which inspired Thorne to examine the concept of using a black hole as a means of time travel. Together with the physicist Sung-Won Kim, Thorne realized that you could (in theory) have a black hole with a wormhole connecting it to another point in space held open by some form of negative energy. But just because you have a wormhole doesnt mean that you have a time machine. Now, lets assume that you could move one end of the wormhole (the movable end). You place the movable end on a spaceship, shooting it off into space at nearly the speed of light. Time dilation kicks in, and the time experienced by the movable end is much less than the time experienced by the fixed end. Lets assume that you move the movable end 5,000 years into the future of the Earth, but the movable end only ages 5 years. So you leave in 2010 AD, say, and arrive in 7010 AD. However, if you travel through the movable end, you will actually pop out of the fixed end in 2015 AD (since 5 years have passed back on Earth). What? How does this work? Well, the fact is that the two ends of the wormhole are connected. No matter how far apart they are, in spacetime, theyre still basically near each other. Since the movable end is only five years older than when it left, going through it will send you back to the related point on the fixed wormhole. And if someone from 2015 AD Earth steps through the fixed wormhole, theyd come out in 7010 AD from the movable wormhole. (If someone stepped through the wormhole in 2012 AD, theyd end up on the spaceship somewhere in the middle of the trip and so on.) Though this is the most physically reasonable description of a time machine, there are still problems. No one knows if wormholes or negative energy exist, nor how to put them together in this way if they do exist. But it is (in theory) possible.

All the ACT Idioms You Need Complete List

All the ACT Idioms You Need Complete List SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Idiom questions on the ACT are different from the other grammar questions on the ACT. Why? Idiom questions don’t conform to specific rules. You have to rely on your intuitive grasp of English and your familiarity with certain phrases. Because you’re likely to encounter at least a few idiom questions on the ACT English test, I’ll provide you with some information about idioms that should help you raise your ACT English score. In this post, I’ll do the following: Explain the concept of an idiom. Detail the most common types of idiom questions on the ACT English section. Offer strategies to help you identify and correctly answer idiom questions. Give a thorough list of idioms to help guide your studying. Provide you with ACT English practice questions to test you on what you’ve learned. What Is an Idiom? Idioms are phrases or expressions that do not conform to simple rules. Each idiom, by definition, is unique. Most people think of idioms as expressions that often have figurative meanings different from their literal meanings. Examples of this type of idiom include "actions speak louder than words," "barking up the wrong tree," and "make a long story short." However, the ACT does not test you on these colloquial expressions. ACT English idiom questions will test you on different types of idioms. Idioms have no rules. How Are Idioms Tested on the ACT English Section? While the ACT doesn't test you on the figurative expressions I referenced above, the ACT does test you on two types of idioms: prepositional idioms and idioms with gerunds/infinitives. Prepositional Idioms For prepositional idioms, you must know which prepositions to use with a given word based on the context of the sentence. For example, you should say that you "wonder about" something, not "wonder on" something. You're "suspicious of" something, not "suspicious by" something. There is no rule to determine the correct preposition to use. You must be familiar with the phrase or rely on what you think "sounds right." Here's an example sentence with a prepositional idiom: Unsurprisingly, after Corey decided not to pay back the substantial loan given to him by his best friend, everyone was outraged for Corey’s behavior. This is a typical sentence with an idiom error you may encounter on the ACT. There's no violation of a specific grammar rule in the sentence. However, the phrase "outraged for" is incorrect. The sentence should read: Unsurprisingly, after Corey decided not to pay back the substantial loan given to him by his best friend, everyone was outragedbyCorey’s behavior. The proper expression is "outraged by." There is no rule that allows you to determine the correct idiomatic expression. Familiarity with the given phrases will greatly help you in identifying idiom errors. There's another type of idiom that is commonly tested on the ACT. Idioms with Gerunds or Infinitives Gerunds are verbs that are used as nouns and end in "ing." Examples of gerunds include skipping, talking, and performing. Infinitives are verbs used as nouns and are constructed by using the word "to" plus a verb. Examples of infinitives include to do, to analyze, and to explain. So what are some examples of idioms with gerunds or infinitives? The correct phrase is "capable of being," not "capable to be." The proper idiomatic expression is "regarded asbeing," not "regardedto being." For these types of idioms, you need to know which preposition to use and whether to use a gerund or an infinitive. With some idioms, depending on the context, it's acceptable to use an infinitive or a gerund. Here's an example with the gerund in bold: I neglected doing my homework. The sentence is also correct if you use an infinitive: I neglected to do my homework. While both of those sentences are correct, this is a sentence with an idiom error: Shelby will succeed in to graduate from college. The phrase "succeed in to graduate" is incorrect. Do you know the right idiomatic expression to use? This is the corrected version of the sentence: Shelby will succeed in graduating from college. There's no rule to learn that will indicate that "succeed in graduating" is the correct phrase. Here's one more example of an idiom error: Gina decides leaving the group when we go out. This is how the sentence looks after we fix the idiom error: Gina decides to leave the group when we go out. The infinitive form should be used with the word "decides." Now here are couple of actual idiom questions from real ACTs. Real ACT English Examples Try to answer this idiom question from a real ACT: Explanation: The answer is D. The right idiomatic expression is "sat across from." Here's one more for you: The court agreed with Kevin that a person's right for wearing clothing of his or her own choosing is, in fact, protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. A. NO CHANGE B. of wearing C. to wear D. wearing Explanation: The correct expression is â€Å"right to wear clothing of his or her own choosing." The answer is C. Why Are Idiom Questions Difficult/Easy? Why They're Difficult Idiom questions can be challenging because other grammar questions follow specific rules or patterns that can be applied to all sentences. Idiom questions test your knowledge of specific idiomatic expressions. Literally, there are thousands of idioms. It's not practical to try to remember each one. Furthermore, ESL students are less likely to be able to identify idiom errors. Knowledge of idioms tends to be built throughout a lifetime of exposure to them. Why They're Easy Idiom questions are the only ones where solely relying on what "sounds right" is likely to give you the right answer. These questions do not require you to understand and apply a rule. If you're familiar with the specific idioms that appear on the ACT English section, you can easily spot any idiom errors. ACT English Tips for Idiom Questions #1: If a preposition, gerund, or infinitive is underlined, check for idiom errors. #2: The question may be testing idioms if the answer choices are all prepositions. #3: Keep a list of idioms that appear on your practice tests. #4: Review and familiarize yourself with the list of idioms below. List of ACT Idioms While there are thousands of idioms in the English language, almost all idiom questions I’ve encountered on the ACT involve prepositional idioms or idioms with gerunds/infinitives. I've listed some of the more common prepositional idioms and idioms with gerunds/infinitives to help guide your studying. Idioms that have appeared on questions in the Real ACT Prep Guide (the red book) are listed first. It's not practical for you to memorize every single idiom on this list. There are usually less than a handful of idiom questions on the ACT English section. Spending numerous hours learning hundreds of idioms would not be the best use of your study time. However, I do recommend that you review this list periodically to become more familiar with these phrases. Thinking about proper idiom construction should benefit you when you encounter idiom questions on the ACT. You'll improve your intuitive grasp of idioms and be able to better recognize idiom errors. After trying to learn every idiom This is my extensive list of idioms: IDIOMS FROM REAL ACT PREP GUIDE come to a conclusion come to a halt come to an end earned a living from/by doing in the dusk modeled on principles of such as PREPOSITIONAL IDIOMS About anxious about ask about bring about curious about hear about think about talk about worry about Against adviseagainst argue against count against decide against defend against go against rebel against As celebrate as regard as see as view as At aim at arriveat laugh at look at succeedat By accompanied by amazed by confused by followed by go by impressed by organized by struck by For advocate for ask for blame for famous for known for last for meant for named for necessary for pay for ready for responsible for tolerance for strive for wait for watch for From abstain from different from excuse from far from obvious from protect from Into enter into lookinto inquire into read into In engage in fall in love in Aas inB interested in succeed in take in Study hard! Position Paper in Support of Patient Affordable Care Act Essay

Position Paper in Support of Patient Affordable Care Act - Essay Example This population lives each day not sure what would happen if they fell sick or were in need of medical attention. The absence of a medical insurance therefore means that they cannot visit the physician for regular check ups and will always postpone illnesses or trips to the doctor because they simply cannot afford it. Delayed medical care for fear of expenses is a disaster considering the number of people in the country and the illnesses that could be treated early turning fatal. People without health insurance are at the greatest risk of not catching illnesses early enough and not acquiring medical attention when need arises. This leads to an increase in healthcare premiums because of unpaid emergency medical bills of uninsured people (Gruber 33). In early 2010, president Obama signed the Affordable Care Act as a step to address the pending disaster of healthcare. This law was set in motion with comprehensive healthcare insurance reforms to deal with the healthcare issue of the Amer icans. According to young invincible, implementing the Act will carter for five major areas namely the extension of the dependent coverage to up to 26years, reforms for college heath plan and exchanges to be more established (Younginvincible.org). It will also offer a catastrophic plan for young adults and expand the Medicaid to the low-income adults who are childless. This plan will go to immense lengths in ensuring that every young person is insured or has access to healthcare through their parents plan. Overt he next few years, there ought to be no barriers when accessing medical care with the implementation of the Affordable care act. It is projected that by the year 2014, changes like a 50% discount on all brand name drugs, tax credits on small business, insurance plans for pre-existing medical conditions as well as an expansion on young adult coverage will be visible. Some of the plans are already underway (Pipes 52). Health systems implemented in other countries around the wo rld have proved to work effectively ensuring that almost every individual in that country is covered medically. According to sick around the world, a country like the United Kingdom has a National Health System (NHS) that is funded through taxes and is run by the government. It ensures that each person born in the U.K will have access and use the NHS (pbs.org). In addition, no one is presented with a medical bill through out the duration they are seeking medication. The initiative of the NHS has also reduced the waiting times that were previously required for elective surgeries. In a country like Japan which holds pride for the best health according to global statistics and the second largest economy. These people also visit the doctor thrice as much as Americans, use more drugs, have double the number of MRI scans, and reportedly spend more days in hospitals (pbs.org). Apparently, they spend only about half of what the United States spends per capita on healthcare. To achieve this, the Japanese have put it in law that every person must buy a health insurance plan through a community plan or through an employer. Reid then tours a country, which came up with the concept of national healthcare systems, Germany. Germany offers universal medical care, which includes mental health, dental, homeopathy, medical, and spa treatment for its 80 million people (pbs.org). They have devised a structure where the poor are paid for by the rich and the healthy
